On Friday, October 27, 2023, the MYO Global Foundation and Ga East Municipal Hospital collaborated to provide a free health screening and family planning awareness event at the Madina Market.
Prof. Douglas Boateng founded the non-profit MYO Global Foundation, which aims to empower youth in Ghana. “Create a world where every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential” is the organization’s stated objective. MYO uses a range of initiatives, including as education, mentoring, and entrepreneurial training, to try and accomplish this goal.
Many traders and consumers at the market participated in the Buu O’ Forfor breast cancer awareness and screening, which included blood pressure checks, malaria tests, sugar level checks, blood type tests, and blood donations.
Ernestina Yeboah, the Content and Programmes Manager at MYO Global, highlighted to this month as the ideal month for the exercise in her speech to participants in the health screening. She believed MYO Global had a chance to join the breast cancer awareness campaign since October has been designated as a global month of awareness. “As an NGO founded by Prof. Douglas Boateng who holds matters concerning the youth, women and children at heart, we realized that mostly women in the market do not have time to take care of themselves because they have to make ends meet; so we brought the hospital to them right here at Madina market, so that they can get their breasts screened and also get other health checks, alongside education on family planning; it’s a whole package for the women over here at the Madina market.”
Madina Market Conveners commended MYO Global for keeping the market women and other participants informed about their health, and they urged onlookers to seize the wonderful chance that MYO Global was offering.
To keep participants entertained, there was an exciting cookery competition in addition to the health screening exercise. The traders were required to organise into a group of three and were introduced as Yum Taaba, Lena Special, Perfect Hands, Good Fingers, Husband and Wife, and Nyame Beye. Following a time-limited demonstration of culinary prowess, Perfect Hands ended up winning. Additional enjoyable events that captivated spectators and ignited the day were musical chairs, a dance contest, and a hype man session by Happy 98.9 FM’s Philip Adjeley-Bi-Darku.
MYO Global Foundation partnered with Ga East Municipal Hospital and Happy FM. The sponsors for the event were: YTV, Tasty Tom, Frytol, Fortune Rice, Sankofa Natural Spices, Cocoa Processing Company Limited, Goldridge Holdings.
